Utility Technician I Position


METRO WATER DISTRICT is seeking candidates to fill a Utility Technician I position. The
ideal candidate must exercise independent judgment, professionalism, initiative, and be highly
motivated with the ability to work independently and as a team.

Job Summary:
Under general direction of the Utility Supervisor, this position is primarily responsible for operation and maintenance of manual and automated metering equipment, meter reading and meter installation. May assist with maintenance of water production site equipment and water distribution components.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Primary responsibilities include operating, monitoring and maintaining automated and manual metering equipment and meter reading for proper regulation of water usage and customer billing. Able to complete the assigned routes in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participates in meter related programs including Automated Meter Reading (AMR), and meter repair and replacement.
  • Inspects, repairs, replaces, and installs meters and metering system components for proper operation.
  • Cleans out, raise/lowers and replaces meters and different size meter boxes.
  • Researches, resolves and responds to customer inquiries.
  • Performs meter testing and repairs.
  • Performs flushing operations to maintain water quality in the distribution system.
  • Cleans and maintains areas to provide access to District assets.
  • Performs minor plumbing repairs.
  • Assists with repairs, maintenance, and installation of meters, water mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, and other distribution assets.
  • Assists in the repair, maintenance, testing and operation of production metering systems.
  • Assists in the maintenance, repairs, and installation of the District’s Fixed Network metering system.
  • Assist in repairs, maintenance, and installation of production assets.

Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year of experience in public water utility; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The salary range for this position is $45,993 – $66,690 the District offers full competitive benefits and membership in the Arizona State Retirement System.
